Wait! Someone else wrote Shakespeare?!
Presenting her case that someone else created the works of Shakespeare, charismatic Irish actor and lawyer Rose Loughlin debuts her solo show A Rose By Any Other Name. The show charts the colourful journey of Rose’s real-life experiences in her quest to discover the real Shakespeare. From clues in Cambridge to proof in Padua and validations in Venice, the show offers incredible insights, entertaining encounters, and moving monologues.
The show’s inspiration is Rose’s passionate interest in Shakespeare authorship, a subject she discovered by accident while studying classical acting. To gain understanding she read into Shakespeare’s background, and became fascinated by the weight of evidence pointing to Elizabethan courtier, poet, and playwright Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford, as the actual writer behind the plays and poems credited to the pseudonym William Shakespeare.
“Applying analytical skills from my legal career to Shakespeare, I travelled to places associated with de Vere– where he was born, lived and worked, visited, and died. The journeys were filled with magic moments and unexpected delights, providing ripe material for a show that I hope sparks intrigue and wonder.”
Rose hopes the audience will become curious about Shakespeare authorship even as her human story shines through, underpinned by the universal themes of personal transformation and the joy of discovery.
For fans of Shakespeare, A Rose By Any Other Name promises a new perspective challenging long-standing perceptions. For those who aren’t, Rose’s charm and conviction may well awaken the desire to learn more.
